History

We built the sanctuary in response to a need for displaced feral cats. We met a kind and generous woman who has given us use of her land to house the sanctuary. We moved the first cats in on December 12, 2002. Cats have come to us from other rescue groups, from sites that we have worked, from elderly people who could no longer care for the animals, from shelters who have asked for help. Cats that have gotten sick have come to my home for recovery, although we now have a recovery facility on site. Several have even become socialized while in our care. We have learned a lot from these cats and have adapted the environment to meet their needs. Our primary goal of the sanctuary is to have it be a home for the cats, not a prison. We keep them fed, watered and sheltered. Some cats have grown to trust us enough to stay out while we clean and feed. A couple have even decided that we are worthy of contact. This evolution has been extremely rewarding for us.

Home sweet home.

Current Needs

At this time we are unable to add any cats to our sanctuary. We can expand the space, but our commitment to their care is limited by the manpower to keep the space clean and the cats fed. We need volunteers who are willing to commit one day per month to work the space- this means cleaning, feeding and petting the cats that do enjoy some human contact. If you are interested in volunteering please fill out our volunteer form and mail it to:

We are also in need of money, food and materials to help us keep it running. If you are interested in making a donation, please go to our donation page. If you would like to donate by sponsoring a specific cat, then please refer to our sponsorship page.

The Need to Expand

Now that we have some experience with caretaking the sanctuary we feel that we are ready to expand. There is such a need for more space for feral cats that cannot be returned to their homes. Our goal is to have enough space so that we do not have to say no to anyone in need of a relocation site and also to have a site large enough so that the cats do not feel like they are imprisoned. The well being of these cats is as important as their safety and health. We would also like to use this sanctuary as a model for others. We believe that there is a need for a space such as this in every community. We are grass roots. We would like to show how a space like this can be created by anyone with a need and a desire to do so. The sanctuary is completely self-funded. All of our help is volunteered. We have no administrative costs. All of the money, food and supplies donated to us go directly to the care of the animals.

Our friends.

The Future

Although we will never even be able to pet the majority of the cats in the sanctuary, they are each one precious. They each have a right to live. They are each special to us. We will continue to learn from the cats and to adapt to meet their needs to the best of our ability. Diane owns the land on which the sanctuary sits and is committed to this project. The only change that I foresee regarding this sanctuary is when I am able to buy my own ranch and then I can move the cats to my property if Diane would like for me to do that. That will be years down the road, so for now we continue to learn and grow where we are.
